Rio 2016 has been a Olympics to remember when it comes to first-time-history.
Monica Puig won the first-ever gold medal for Puerto Rico, defeating Angelique Kerber of Germany, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, in the women’s singles final.
There was joy and disbelief for Puig, being that she never got pass the forth round in her professional career.
Puig quoted to USA Today, “I couldn’t really believe what just happened,” she said. “It was such an amazing moment.”
Sky’s the limit for Puig as she now made her game known and will now aim her focus on the next major event for tennis which is the US Open in Flushing Queens this month.
Editor note- As I am a Puerto Rican, it is a great honor to report on Monica Puig AND I am so proud of her accomplishment.
